Product Description

From the Musashi Platinum Collection comes this intricately hand crafted Koi Katana. The Gomai-kitae hand forging technique used with 1060+1095 high carbon steel has created a beautiful blade.

Gomai-kitae is a method of forging that uses five layers of steel. Two outer layers, hagane and shingane, are forged around a base hagane or kawagane core, resulting in a cross section of five layers of high carbon steel.

The detailed maru gata style brass tsuba depicts two Koi fish surrounding the katana. The Koi is one of the most highly respected symbols in Japanese culture, representing strength and perseverance. Like the katana itself, Koi fish are known for their strength and tenacity, always swimming upstream against the strong current, overcoming all obstacles.

The katana features a battle wrapped sageo on top of a beautiful ray skin buffalo horn style saya to match the Koi theme. The wood handle is ray skin wrapped in traditional black cotton cord. It also features a matching Koi Brass Fuchi and Kashira.
