A rare Roman ceramic double-spouted oil lamp, circa mid-1st century AD. A finely-crafted lamp, with two elaborate nozzles, recessed body with intricate, radiating pattern, and tall, crescent-shaped tail, small loop handle at back. L: 6 inches, intact save for 2 old repairs. Spouts still charred from ancient use! ref: Broneer Type XXI; Loeschke shoulder form IVa. Crescent handle-ornament is Bailey Q1036 in his book of British Museum lamps. Ex archaeologist’s estate, Canada.
